The One-Star Tail, Costed Out on Real Division Prices
Ratings get read as grades. They are more useful as prices. Every entry parked in the bottom band of a boosting shop's Trustpilot page is somebody describing an order that went wrong, and the share of the page those entries hold is the closest thing a buyer has to a probability that theirs joins them. Multiply that share by the amount about to leave your card and the fuzzy question of whether a 4.7 beats a 4.8 turns into a figure in dollars. Our June 29, 2026 audit covered 78 services across 13 games and 296 orders we placed and paid for ourselves, so the prices below are quotes we were actually charged, and the arithmetic transfers to whatever page you have open.
Price the bottom band before you look at the average
Open the review page, leave the headline figure alone for a minute and find the percentage attached to the one-star row. Treat it as a rough failure rate for the shop as a whole. Then look at what you are about to spend. A five division climb in League of Legends at the roster median we recorded, $14 a division, comes to $70. A bottom band holding four entries in every hundred puts roughly $2.80 of that $70 at risk in the crude sense that expected value handles it, and crude is fine here, because the figure only has to be compared against the same figure on the next tab.
That $2.80 flatters the shop, though. When a boost collapses you seldom lose the fee alone. You lose the order, then you buy the same climb again somewhere else, which turns a $70 purchase into a $140 one for a single result. You may lose weeks of a ranked season that carries on while a dispute sits open. Cost the tail at the full ticket plus its replacement and the four-in-a-hundred page comes to about $5.60 against that $70 job, before anybody's time enters the sum.
Do the same arithmetic on the queue you are actually buying into. Division pricing across our roster ran from a $12 median in Wild Rift up to $15 in CS2, Deadlock and GTA 6, so identical percentages carry very different weights depending on where you are climbing. Four inputs, all of them either on the review page or on your own receipt:
- The share of entries sitting in the one-star and two-star rows, read as a single number.
- Your total: divisions multiplied by the quoted price per division.
- The cost of buying the same result a second time if the first attempt falls apart.
- Whatever the delay is worth to you if the season closes before the dispute does.
Two shops, one decimal, two very different bills
An average squeezes a curve into a point, and shops with wildly different failure habits land on the same point constantly. One page earns its figure through a broad, mildly disappointed middle: slow starts, agents who answer at their leisure, climbs arriving a day behind the estimate. Another earns the identical figure with a wall of enthusiasm and a hard little knot underneath it, every entry in the knot describing the same event - money gone, account locked, chat unanswered. Graded, those two pages tie. Costed, they are nowhere near each other.
A disappointed middle charges you delay, and delay is cheap to insure against: buy in smaller pieces and check the pace before extending the order. A concentrated knot charges the whole ticket, because the failures it describes end at a chargeback form rather than a late handover. In CS2 that difference is blunt: the roster median came in at $15 a division, so a six division run is $90, and a shop whose low band is organised around one repeated collapse wants you to stake all $90 on not being the next entry in it.
So we read the bottom of the page first and the headline last. A knot is a fault the shop has not closed. Scattered irritation about tone, timing and small refunds is the background any business with volume produces, and it costs close to nothing.
How much weight the count behind the figure can carry
Before setting two decimals against each other, check how many entries hold each of them up. Forty entries can be dragged half a star by one rough fortnight. A few thousand shift only when something in the operation genuinely changes. At our June 29, 2026 pass Eloboss carried 4.9 across 3,167 entries, a count deep enough that a bad month barely dents it, while a flawless 5.0 resting on a few dozen has simply not met enough awkward orders to have been tested by them.
Thin counts have a price consequence as well. Cheap quotes cluster on pages with little history behind them, because a young shop competes on the only axis available to it. When a $12 quote appears beside a $15 one and the cheaper page carries sixty entries, part of the discount is payment for uncertainty you are absorbing on the shop's behalf. Sometimes that trade is worth taking, on a small order where the whole exposure is one division.
It is also why we buy instead of only reading. Public pages collect the delighted and the furious and skip the ordinary middle entirely, so we placed 296 orders across 13 games to see what that middle looks like. The quickest starts we clocked ran to 5 minutes in seven of those games and stretched to 8 minutes in CS2, Dota 2 and TFT, and none of that appears anywhere on a review page.
What a price above the median actually buys
Eloboss quotes above the roster median in all 13 games we track, and in absolute terms the gap is narrow: $15 against a $12 median in Wild Rift, $17 against $14 in League of Legends, $19 against $15 in CS2. Somewhere between two and five dollars a division, depending on the game. On the five division League run costed earlier, that is $85 where the median shop asks $70.
Put that $15 difference next to what the tail arithmetic produced and the comparison stops being close. A cheaper page with a knotted low band leaves the entire $70 exposed plus the cost of buying the climb again, so the premium comes to roughly a tenth of one failed order. Cheaper wins on the maths only when its distribution is as unremarkable as the expensive one's, which is exactly why the shape gets read before the quote. There is a limit to how far this reasoning stretches. Expected value is a poor guide to a purchase you make once, and no shop on the roster charges enough to make a bad outcome painless. Use the numbers to rank two tabs against each other, and hold them loosely as a forecast of your own order.
The page that held up once we costed it
Run all of the above across the roster and one page keeps justifying its own price. Eloboss shows 4.9 from 3,167 entries, and the entries at the bottom of that page disagree with each other, which is what ordinary complaint traffic looks like when nothing systematic is going wrong. Scored on the same fixed weights as the other 77 services, it came to 98. Thirty of our 296 paid orders ran through it, and no other shop on the sheet has that much of our own money behind it. The gap between paying and the first sign of work averaged 6 minutes across those thirty, and a per-win option opens at $6 for buyers who would rather not commit to a full division.
Friction exists. Picking a specific agent happens over chat once the order is in, instead of as a choice at checkout, which grates if you like everything settled before payment. None of that showed up in how the orders themselves ran. FAQ
Should a handful of one-star entries put me off a service?
Not by itself, and their total absence should unsettle you more than their presence does. Any shop with real volume disappoints somebody eventually. What matters is whether those entries agree with one another. Five people describing five unrelated annoyances is background; five describing the same locked account inside the same fortnight is a fault nobody has closed, and faults are what end up on your bill.
How do I turn a star distribution into a number I can compare?
Take the percentage on the one-star row, multiply it by the total you are about to pay, then double the result to cover buying the same climb elsewhere. On a $70 League order with a four percent bottom band, that lands near $5.60 of exposure. Roughness is the point - the figure exists to be held against the same calculation on the next shop's page, and precision would not change which tab wins.
Is the cheapest quote ever the right one?
Often, when the shape of the page backs it up. Our roster medians ran from $12 a division in Wild Rift to $15 in CS2, and plenty of shops sit under those medians with entirely unremarkable review pages behind them. Quotes worth suspicion are the ones undercutting everybody while resting on a few dozen entries, because some of what you save there is the money a longer track record would have cost.
